Yoga has been a part of my life for over 15 years. I practiced it on and off in the beginning, but I was always drawn back to it every time because of how it made me feel. I felt so nurtured, relaxed and peaceful afterwards. I went on to qualify as a Yoga Teacher over 4 years ago and have also ran my own studio 'The Chakra Hut' in Bishopbriggs, before going on to have my daughter.
Yoga has helped me through many phases and transitions in my life, from trying to conceive over the age of 40, pregnancy, and now the ups and downs of motherhood. Yoga helps you to stay calm, patient and present as well as stretching and strengthening your body, which is really needed on the journey into motherhood and indeed for ageing gracefully.
Becoming a parent is the biggest transformation and transition you will ever go through. All my life I tried to avoid pregnancy, taking the pill and being quite oblivious to my cycle. I believed that it would happen easily, because unprotected sex = baby right?! How inaccurate that really is!! Around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty conceiving, and also those that go through infertility, have been found to have the same stress levels as those with a cancer or heart disease diagnoses.
It took me a several years after coming off the pill, losing 2 pregnancies, learning about my cycle, lots of self care and bringing balance back to my system along the way. I really do believe that Yoga was key, and it also helped me to stay strong and healthy throughout my pregnancy and beyond as a 40 something first time mum!
Giving birth is one of, if not THE most important event(s) of your life and one that you will remember forever, so preparing, being educated and being fully supported is key. This has all led me to take specialist training in Chakras, mindfulness, fertility, pre and postnatal Yoga and fertility nutrition, to help others achieve parenthood and have an empowered birthing and postnatal experience.
